2018 Was a Year of Change

Before we get too far along into the prime year of 2019, let’s review 2018. Your district leaders have invested an enormous amount of effort to move our district and our clubs forward. Some changes are first-ever events and are worthy of your pride for participating in a job well done. Here are examples of exactly how your leaders provided dedication and service with strength and humility in 2018.

As a millennial well into the workforce (7 years into my career after attending graduate school), I can’t help but think about many of the baby boomers around me who are starting to retire, millennials filling those gaps, and how that might impact our workforce. We are approaching mid-year for the Toastmasters program year. To kick things off – Congratulations to the newly chartered clubs in District 26: Gunbarrel Community Toastmasters Club, #6639075 – chartered 12/21/18 – Platte County Toastmasters Club, #06924438 – chartered 01/03/19. The clubs are currently pending alignment and will soon be reflected in the appropriate Divisions and Areas.

Wherever you go, whatever you do…you are a Toastmaster. That means whatever you do, wherever you go, whatever you say, how you treat someone, how you represent yourself online, how you represent yourself offline, you are still a Toastmaster. As a Toastmaster, it is our job to “Protect the Brand”. Protecting the Brand means being aware of who we are outside of Toastmasters as much as who we are when performing in a Toastmaster capacity.

“As a member of Toastmasters International and my club, I promise to serve my club as an officer when called upon to do so.” Congratulations Club Officers! You have kept your promise to serve as a president, vice president, secretary, treasurer, or sergeant at arms. Now what? Learn how to accomplish the task you promised to do and serve your club in the best way you know how by attending a Toastmasters Leadership Institute (TLI) on a Saturday in January!

Are you on the road to becoming a Distinguished Toastmaster (DTM)? Maybe you need to complete your High Performance Leadership (HPL) project. But, what project will allow me to lead a team while developing my leadership skills? Glad you asked. After the first of the year, there are opportunities to chair different events such as Area and Division contests.
